From KodoKai

The most important part of the word Kodo, as well as Karate-do, is the suffix “do” meaning “way.” Like life itself, karate-do is a journey, not a destination. Along the way, give and take must be in balance. Therefore, as you take new skills and insights from the martial arts, you must also let go of much in return.

Let go of the past. Let go of attachment. Let go of expectations. Let go of fear, negativity, and judgment. Let go of ego.

As you live the martial way, remember

  • Your limits are self-created illusions.
  • Everything and everyone is connected.
  • What you do to others, you do to yourself.
  • No two people come together for the benefit of just one.
  • Everyone is a student. Everyone is a teacher.
  • Where the mind goes, energy flows.
  • There is power in softness.
  • Mastery occurs in the absence of conscious thought.
  • Every master has a master.
  • Be here now.

As you walk your path

  • Trust your intuition.
  • Display compassion and respect for all that is.
  • See the gifts in everyone and everything.
  • Strive for balance and harmony.
  • Unify mind, body, and spirit.
  • Seek truth and live with integrity.
  • Instill positive intent into everything you do.
  • Demonstrate humility and appreciation.
  • Take charge of your life or someone else will.

Even when you do not agree with Sensei, honor his or her words through contemplation.
